Cool Gadget Gifts
After all, we test thousands of technology products in our lab each year, rating them against competitors, crowning winners and losers, all with the simple focus of telling you what technology to buy. Each of us has fielded numerous emails, texts, and phone calls from our readers, parents, high school friends, and others asking: "Which (TV, laptop, phone, headphones, or fill in the appropriate blank) should I buy?" We happily dispense this buying advice because we love what we do. Who better to assemble the ultimate tech-focused gift guide than us? The majority of the products in this story are ones that we've tested and rated throughout the year. There are, however, a few we haven't yet reviewed, or are in the process of reviewing, but we believe merit inclusion for their value proposition, specific appeal, or general cool gadget factor. After the last pine needle has fallen and all the gift wrap is recycled, we'll continue to update this story throughout the year, so it always includes our favorite products, and you have a curated list of gift ideas for every holiday. What's on your wish list this year? Is there a perfect holiday gift we didn't include?

GoPro has a voice-controlled remote for its voice-controlled cameras
One of the reasons we gave both of GoPro's new cameras -- the Hero5 Black and Hero Session -- good scores is that they both allow you to use voice control to do things like start and stop recording, take photo bursts, set a highlight tag, shoot pictures, change modes and switch the camera off. In our tests, we found that the feature works well, although on blustery days wind noise can prevent the camera's microphones from picking up the sound of your voice. In part to address that sort of problem, GoPro just unveiled the Remo, a voice-controlled remote meant to be used with its new voice-controlled cameras. Like the Hero5 Black itself, the clip-on remote is waterproof, albeit to 16 feet here instead of 33. It also responds to the same commands as the two cameras, in 10 languages. In addition to controlling for wind noise, you might clip it to pets or small children and start a recording from afar.
The 45 Best Tech Gifts For Every Budget
Need help picking a gift? The 2016 holiday is fast approaching. That means one thing: gadget time. These are the TIME technology team's suggestions for everything from stocking stuffers, like Nintendo's NES Classic, to high-end cameras like Fujifilm's X-T2. Our suggestions are sorted by budget, from least to most expensive. We've also included a few lines about why we like each gadget we've picked for the list. Why we like it: They're a pair of neon-orange clip-on plastic extensions that make it easier to take down targets with the current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox controllers. After using them to play games like Overwatch, Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, we'll never go back. What to know: Purists may consider using these to be cheating. Why we like it: These Bluetooth-powered tags play a little song when prompted, so you can find them if they are within 100 feet of your cellphone. Tile Slim is just the width of two credit cards, letting it slip in a wallet with minimal heft, and Tile Mate is 25% smaller than the original tile -- making it a perfect keychain fob. What to know: Out of range doesn't mean out of luck. Selecting "notify when found" taps the community of Tile owners, anonymously. So, when someone walks past your lost item, their app will detect it and report it to the service, which will reveal its location on your app. Uber Gift Card ($25) Suzanne Darcy for TIME Who's it for: Anyone who lives in an area where Uber is available, especially in cities. Why we like it: It's an easy way to treat a friend or family member to a free ride, since recipients just need to enter the Gift Code in the Payments section of the app. Gift cards are sold in retail chains such as Walmart, Target, and CVS. What to know: Uber gift cards can't be used to make purchases through the company's other services, like UberEATS and UberRUSH. Why we like it: There are plenty of affordable streaming options out there, but the Chromecast makes browsing content as easy as using your smartphone. Since the Chromecast runs compatible apps from your phone on your TV, you don't need to log into apps on your TV or get used to a new interface. What to know: Your phone must be nearby in order to use and control the Chromecast.

Drone Off! GoPro Karma and DJI Mavic Pro Fly Head-to-Head
Announced within a week of each other, the GoPro Karma and the DJI Mavic Pro are the season's (the year's?) hottest drones. They both fold up, they both shoot stabilized 4K video, and they'll both scare the hell out of your cat. Both have things that are absolutely fantastic, and both have things that are completely infuriating. If I had to recommend one it would be the GoPro Karma, but certainly not without reservations. The Mavic is wonderfully tiny--small enough to literally sit on the palm of your hand.
GoPro's Hero5 Black and Session bring overdue improvements
Recently, GoPro unveiled an entirely new product lineup. Not just the new Hero5 Black ( 399) and Hero5 Session ( 299), but also the Karma drone, a surprise handheld gimbal -- known as the Karma Grip -- and a brand new cloud service called GoPro Plus. While it's going to be another week or so before we can get our hands on the Karma drone, I had a chance to spend some time with the new flagship Hero5 Black and its sidekick, the Hero5 Session. Both come with some exciting, long awaited new features, which I'll lay out in detail below. With many of the upgrades addressing common pain points, it's clear that this year, GoPro was mainly focused on polishing the user experience. The Hero5 Session is much improved compared to its predecessor, adding 4K and 2.7k video modes, as well as various options for frame rates and field-of-view controls. Unfortunately, the battery life isn't great, and with no way to swap in a fresh one (the battery is built in), you'll need to be prudent on long excursions.
GoPro Hero5 Black, Hero5 Session Announced; Both Feature 4K Video Recording, Voice Control
On Monday, GoPro founder and CEO Nick Woodman officially unveiled the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session, both of which are capable of 4K video recording. The Hero5 Black takes all of the Hero4 Black's best features while adding a rear display and voice control functionality. The GoPro Hero5 Black retains its simple and user-friendly design with its updated look. One of the biggest gripes about the GoPro Hero4 Black was its lack of a rear display despite being the flagship model. The mid-range Hero4 Silver had a screen, so its absence on the Hero4 Black was just mind-boggling.
GoPro sets the standard for action cameras with the Hero5
Today was a busy day for GoPro. Along with revealing its much-anticipated first drone, known as the Karma, the company also introduced two new action cameras. Both the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session are a major upgrade over their predecessors, with voice control and native waterproofing chief among the standout features. But let's start with the flagship Hero5 Black. It now comes with a 2-inch touchscreen, GPS and a sensor that takes up to 12-megapixel images.
GoPro's Karma Drone and New Cameras Look Mighty Hot
GoPro has been quiet for a while. And a rumored GoPro drone has remained a mystery while the competition in the skies continues to boil. Today, we get new GoPro goodies, and at first glimpse, they look great. The California company just took the lid off the Hero5 Black ( 399), the Hero5 Session ( 299), and its Karma drone ( 799). The cameras arrive on October 2, and the drone follows on October 23.
